hey guys

q23 exam f

Your network contains an Active Directory domain. The domain contains a group named Group1. The minimum password length for the domain is set to six characters.

You need to ensure that the passwords for all users in Group1 are at least 10 characters long. All other users must be able to use passwords that are six characters long.

What should you do first?

i think it's B

You would only ask that question if you don't trust the answer that is given. What do you think the answer should be? If you can explain that a bit that would be most helpful to improve the dump! Thanks! :-)

Your network contains an active directory domain named contoso.com. Contoso.com contains a writable domain controller named DC1 and a read-only domain controller ( RODC ) named DC2. All domain controllers run windows server 2008 R2.

You need to install a new writable domain contoller named DC3 in a remote site. The solution must minimize the amount of replication traffic that occurs during the installation of active directory domain services ( AD DS ) on DC3.

What should you do first ?

A. Run dcpromo.exe /createdcaccount on DC3.
B. Run ntdsutil.exe on DC2.
C. Run dcpromo.exe /adv on DC3.
d. Run ntdsutil.exe on DC1.

Guys what is answer of this question ???

@gosha and Nada
Regarding question E07:

Because the domain has only Windows Server 2008 domain controllers, the current domain and forest functional levels are 2008 at most. Introducing a 2008 R2 domain controller requires adprep /forestprep and adprep /domainprep to be run. There's no other way, it has to be done.

On top of that, the current domain already has five RODCs. This means that adprep /rodcprep has already run and doesn't need to be run again in this case.

Reference:
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd464018.aspx

adprep /rodcprep
If you already ran this command for Windows Server 2008, you do not have to run it again for Windows Server 2008 R2.

Thanks for bringing it up, an explanation will be included in v2! (Still waiting for sherry to respond, but she doesn't, it seems.)

Hi gosha,
Would you mind providing the question number and or the other possible answers in your post? However, I do agree with your answer. Although the current forest level is at 2008 the plan is to install a 2008 R2 and the forest will need to be at the 2008 R2 functional level as a result.

Here is a link to the exact issue:

i think the answer is not accurate

Your network contains a single Active Directory domain. The domain contains five read-only domain controllers (RODCs) and five writable domain controllers. All servers run Windows Server 2008.

You plan to install a new RODC that runs Windows Server 2008 R2. You need to ensure that you can add the new RODC to the domain.

You want to achieve this goal by using the minimum amount of administrative effort.

Which two actions should you perform? (Each correct answer presents part of the solution.
Choose two.)

it should be

At the command prompt, run adprep.exe /forestprep.
At the command prompt, run adprep.exe /rodcprep.

http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc754629%28v=ws.10%29.aspx#bkmk_rodcprep

@Haitham Elroussy
Creating two shortcut trusts would not help. Besides the fact that it doesn't allow users from Forest1 to connect to resources from Forest3 (because a shortcut trust is between two domains in one single forest), and vice versa, you'd be creating *two* trusts.

Creating a two-way forest trust allows users in both Forest1 and Forest3 to access each others resources, and we've only created *one* trust.

References:
========
MCTS 70-640 Cert Guide: Windows Server 2008 Active Directory, Configuring (Pearson IT Certification, 2010)
page 327

Shortcut Trust
Unlike the previously discussed trusts, a shortcut trust relationship exists within a single forest. It is an additional trust relationship between two child domains, which optimizes the authentication process when a large number of users require access to resources in another domain. It is especially useful if the normal authentication path must cross several domains.

MS Press - Self-Paced Training Kit (Exam 70-640) (2nd Edition, December 14 2012)
page 639:

You can specify whether the forest trust is one-way, incoming or outgoing, or two-way. As mentioned earlier, a forest trust is transitive, allowing all domains in a trusting forest to trust all domains in a trusted forest. However, forest trusts are not themselves transitive. For example, if the tailspintoys.com forest trusts the worldwideimporters .com forest, and the worldwideimporters.com forest trusts the northwindtraders.com forest, those two trust relationships do not allow the tailspintoys.com forest to trust the northwindtraders.com forest. If you want those two forests to trust each other, you must create a specific forest trust between them.

Exam F Q35, there are already two-way trust bet. Forest 1,2 and bet. Forest 2,3
he asked between Forest 1.3 with number of trusts must be minimized
so I think the perfect answer is "Create a shortcut trust in Forest 1 & a shortcut trust in Forest 3 " and is better than Create a two-way trust Bet. F1, F3

Just the Manager (for exam testing) is €20, so about 26/27 dollar I think. Some say they found it on the web somewhere.

If you're taking the buying route, it's a good investment. It's a fraction of the cost of an exam and when you learn the dump well, you can't fail the exam. Usually. ;-)

Regarding D29:
We need to access resources in another forest, so they need to trust us. This means we need to create an *incoming* external trust.

Reference:
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc816877.aspx

A one-way, incoming, external trust allows users in your domain (the domain that you are logged on to at the time that you run the New Trust Wizard) to access resources in another Active Directory domain (outside your forest).

i think that the answer to question 29 is wrong
Your network contains an Active Directory forest. The forest contains a single domain. You want to access resources in a domain that is located in another forest. You need to configure a trust between the domain in your forest and the domain in the other forest.

What should you create?
a.an incoming external trust
b.an incoming realm trust
c.an outgoing external trust
d.an outgoing realm trust

i think it's C

Hmm. both books are pretty good. The Cert Guide is a more 'easy', more pleasant to read. The Self Paced Kit has well organized exercises. Hard to choose a favorite! Note that both don't cover the exam 100%, so Technet is an essential part of the study.

I cannot share the Cert Guide PDF as it is watermarked. The videos can be found on the CBT Nuggets and Trainsignal sites, or somewhere else if you look a bit harder (quite easily, actually).. Same goes for the Self Paced Training Kit. Not the answer you're looking for, sorry!

First off thanks to everyone who contributed to making this exam. I took the exam today (USA) and can say it is valid 100%, I had one unseen question about deploying software to machine but only to ones that have available space on the hard drive (WMI filtering), that was easy. However I still managed to fail (6XX) after reading this dump over twice, I seem to confuse the answers around I guess. I have modified this current exam to the questions I had on my test (from over 400 to about 100 that were relevant) and will re-take within a week. I hope to do better and if my exam doesn't change too much I'll upload/share.

Can you be more specific about which question you're referring to? When you say question 37 I assume you're looking at A37, as that would be the 37th question in the Manager would show you. But your comments do not make sense then. Could it be you have the "Randomize questions" option checked? Check it in the Manager's main window under Exam Options.

You can also type/copy the question text of course.
Thanks!

@Terminator
Congratulations! Good job!

For 70-642 I've watched the TrainSignal videos. I also have the CBT Nuggets videos, but haven't seen them yet. Not sure if I will.
I also have two books I mainly use,

MS Press - 70-642 - Self Paced Training Kit - 2nd Ed - (2012-11-30)
MCTS 70-642 Cert Guide Windows Server 2008 Network Infrastructure

Both are PDF versions. I also got a few other PDF books that I search in, when these two don't explain it well/don't cover it.
I did a few searches on Amazon as well. It's easy to find a book, and often there's a preview, and you can search in that preview. It doesn't always work, but it helped a few times.

Last, but certainly not least: Google! When I'm stuck on a question I don't know, and that frequently happens as not everything is covered by the books/videos, I do a Google search. I often use the "site:" function. For example, if I want to know something more about ipsec, I search on:
ipsec 2008 r2 site:technet.microsoft.com

The "site:" part makes sure I only get hits that are found on Technet, and I also include the "2008 r2" part in an effort to weed out ipsec information from the distant past. ;) Google and Technet are your friends!

Occasionally I copied and pasted part of a dump question and used the following search:
"part of question blah blah blah" site:examcollection.com
This would often result in hits where that question was discussed. Could be helpful.

And let's not forget VMWare! (Or any other virtual server environment.) Set up a couple of servers, implement a domain and off you go! You can do exercises in the books, play out scenarios, test things, see how it really works. Wouldn't want to miss it. Very valuable!

Hope this helpes a bit!

It's great you're setting up a VMWare environment for labs and testing! The best way to make it your own is to work with it.

Usually my study plan for something new looks like this:
1. watch some training video's, like TrainSignal, CBT Nuggets. This will build a foundation. It's probably not enough to pass a test, but it's a quick start.
2. Go through a good book (I usually look on Amazon which are recommended; and because you've watched the video training earlier it sinks in easier), and do the exercises. That last part is important. Do the lab exercises.
3. Get a dump and see at what level you are. If you don't know an answer, look it up, or start VMWare and test it out.

Mostly these phases kind of overlap. Find out what works for you and go for it!
Good luck!

If a DNS server has a root zone, then that the server is a top-level root server. Because a root server is at the top of the DNS hierarchy, it cannot be configured to forward and does not require root hints.

So, to enable forwarding we have to remove the root zone, hence answers B and D.

Reasoning the other way around, the fact that forwarding is unavailable indicates that the server has a root zone.

Hi All,

I would like to thank each and everyone of you who dedicated your time to compile and share the information here. I would like to sit the 70-640 in February and am currently trying to get through the MS training kit book in addition to the dumps for better understanding. Can someone confirm/explain the below answer?

Your company has an Active Directory domain named ad.contoso.com. The domain has two domain controllers named DC1 and DC2. Both domain controllers have the DNS server role installed.

You install a new DNS server named DNS1.contoso.com on the perimeter network. You configure DC1 to forward all unresolved name requests to DNS1.contoso.com.

You discover that the DNS forwarding option is unavailable on DC2.

You need to configure DNS forwarding on the DC2 server to point to the DNS1.contoso.com server.

A.Clear the DNS cache on DC2.
B.Configure conditional forwarding on DC2.
C.Configure the Listen On address on DC2.
D.Delete the Root zone on DC2.

Why B & D and not A & B?
What in the question would indicate that DC2 had a root zone?

Thanks in advance!

Hi Venomous!
i put about 30+ days preparing for 70640 worked a lot with DNS part while preparing for 70640. which is the major part in 70642 exam. so i can just scan threw DNS while preparing for 70642, so 24 days should be quite enoght if u put like 10 hours a days sitting and just studying and doing labs and reading technets.
my study plan 24 * 10 hours a day
i first divide the topics into small areas, just like the one that you see on Microsoft guide for certification, and i allocate certain days on preparing for the topic, sorting according to my strengths and weakness, i put more time on my weakness.
i watch nuggets, then i do labs according to nuggets, then i read self placed and do lab according to the book, if i am want to know stuff in detail i read tech net or Google it. I use dumps just to find my weakness and work on it or do more research on technet.
The errors in the dumps we have already discussed on this blog.

I think you are right we need to create claims in order to mapp the claims to the security groups in the account store for authentication

Hey, Luffy!
Awesome score! Congratulations! You should be the one creating dumps! ;)

If I could steal a moment of your time:

1. what's your study plan for 70-642? Are you using videos? Are you using labs for exercises in books, or are you using them for the dumps? Anything else? 24 days seems pretty short! :)

2. I'm planning to do a 70-640 Venomous v2 dump and I'd like your opinion on these questions:

A11
You said the correct answer is "Add and configure a new resource partner". Could you explain that in a few words?

E11
I'm still kind of torn between answers B ("a resource partner") and D ("an organization claim"). Advice would be welcome!

Are there any other errors you found in the dump (apart from the others we talked about)?

I'll be using the following dumps for 70-642:
Microsoft.Pass4Sure.70-642.v2012-12-16.by.brn888.348q.vce
Microsoft.BrainDump.70-642.v2012-09-20.by.cramjunkie.379q.vce

Not sure if I'll be creating another one, since it takes up quite a lot of time. Would love to do it, though.

Thank you!

K13
Why do you think D would be a good answer? "Domain Name System Security Extensions (DNSSEC) is a suite of extensions that adds security to the DNS protocol by providing the ability for DNS servers to validate DNS responses. With DNSSEC, resource records are accompanied by digital signatures. These digital signatures are generated when DNSSEC is applied to a DNS zone using a process called zone signing. When a resolver issues a DNS query for resource record in a signed zone, a digital signature is returned with the response so that validation can be performed. If validation is successful, this proves that the data has not been modified or tampered with in any way."

So, DNSSEC is used to validate DNS responses, NOT to encrypt zone transfers.

This line says it all: "Active Directory replication traffic is encrypted; therefore zone replication traffic is encrypted automatically."
To achieve this we create a primary zone in the ForestDNSZone directory partition. This way it gets replicated to all DNS servers in the forest, including DC2, in encrypted form.

Question K13
Your network contains an Active Directory forest. The forest contains two domains named
contoso.com and east.contoso.com. The contoso.com domain contains a domain controller
named DC1. The east.contoso.com domain contains a domain controller named DC2. DC1 and
DC2 have the DNS Server server role installed.
You need to create a DNS zone that is available on DC1 and DC2. The solution must ensure that
zone transfers are encrypted.
A. Create a primary zone on DC1 and store the zone in a zone file. On DC1 and DC2, configure
inbound rules and outbound rules by using Windows Firewall with Advanced Security. Create a
secondary zone on DC2 and select DC1 as the master.
B. Create a primary zone on DC1 and store the zone in a DC=ForestDNSZones, DC=Contoso,
DC=com naming context.
C. Create a primary zone on DC2 and store the zone in a DC= DC=East, DC=Contoso/DC=com
naming context. Create a secondary zone on DC1 and select DC2 as the master.
D. Create a primary zone on DC1 and store the zone in a zone file. Configure DNSSEC for the
zone. Create a secondary zone on DC2 and select DC1 as the master,

what is the right answer B or D???

@Luffy
E11, you're totally right, on Server1 we don't need to create an account partner. That would need to be created on the trusting party's side. My screw up! :)

I've been pondering on this one a bit longer and there are a couple of things that need to be setup on Server1:

- an organization claim
- an account store
- the resource partner

The question states that the account store has already been defined, as in it has been created. As far as I've tested in VMWare the organization claim doesn't have to be created *before* we create the account store. Both account store and organization claim have to exist before we do the claim mapping on Server1.
Furthermore we have to create the resource partner on Server1.

So I'd say that leaves us with two possible answers,

B - a resource partner
D - an organization claim

I'm leaning toward the organization claim, because that's the part that's purely used for user authentication, as asked in the question. The adding of the resource partner on Server1 has more to do with the creation of the federation trust relationship (which is also important for authentication of course.).

Any thoughts are welcome. :)

Its answer B(resource partner) contoso is already the account store so u dont need to create any account partner, since we are accessing the resourceses in the resource partner we need to create a rosource partner account

Hi Venomous
What i think(not very sure about immigration from fs1.0 to fs 2.0) ,as long as its ADFS farm either ADFS 1.0 or 2.0 we need to use Personal Information Exchange PKCS #12 (.pfx) if theya all belong to the same farm.I guess when we migrate from ADFS 1.0 to 2.0 for consistency sake i dont see any problem exporting Personal Information Exchange PKCS #12 (.pfx) from FS 1.0 to FS2.0.
Note
just as u mentioned. token singing cert which contains private key is shared within the FS farm.
Token singing cert(acount FS) containing public key is exported to resource FS ,
