Earning the Cisco CCIE Collaboration certification is a universally recognized way of proving your knowledge and skills in complex collaboration solutions. Obtaining this expert-level certificate requires passing one written exam, Cisco 350-801: Implementing and Operating Cisco Collaboration Core Technologies, along with the lab test, CCIE Collaboration v3.0.

Prerequisites

Cisco doesn’t list any prerequisites for the CCIE Collaboration certification. However, the vendor recommends that the applicants have 5-7 years of experience in designing, operating, deploying, and optimizing collaboration solutions and technologies before taking the qualifying exams.

Exam Details

The Cisco 350-801 test is 120 minutes long. The exam can be taken online. You can also sit for it at a testing center. The qualifying exam costs $400 for those applicants who are in the United States. The students from other countries may have to pay more in order to take this test. Therefore, it is important that you check the information about the actual cost of the exam on the official webpage. The CCIE Collaboration lab test is a practical option that takes 8 hours to complete. It can be taken at a recognized Pearson VUE center.

The CCIE Collaboration certification exams measure a wide range of skills. For example, the Cisco 350-801 test comes with the following topics:

1. Infrastructure & Design (20%)

Within this subject area, the candidates taking the Cisco 350-801 exam are required to demonstrate that they can perform the following tasks: describing the major design components of licensing (Flex, Smart), dial plan, sizing, disaster recovery, bandwidth, and security (TLS, SRTP) relating to the Cisco Collaboration architecture according to a description in SRND/PA; describing the role of the Edge device in a Cisco Collaboration architecture such as Cisco Unified Border Element and Expressway; configuring the network components, including NTP, DHCP, TFTP, LDAP, and CDP to support Cisco Collaboration solutions; troubleshooting the network components, such as NTP, DNS, and LDAP in a Cisco Collaboration solution; explaining the components such as DNS and SNMP to support Cisco Collaboration solutions, and so on.

2. Protocols, Codecs & Endpoints (20%)

This domain encompasses various skills, such as troubleshooting the elements of a SIP conversation (DTMF and SDP); identifying the appropriate collaboration codecs for a certain scenario; deploying SIP endpoints (manual, Bulk Administration Tool, and self-provisioning); troubleshooting collaboration endpoints; configuring codec negotiations.

3. Cisco IOS XE Gateway & Media Resources (15%)

Solving the items aligned to this area, the applicants need to have the ability to configure various voice gateway elements, such as codec preference list, DTMF, dial peers, voice translation rules and profiles; configure ISDN PRI/BRI; identify the right media resources for a specific scenario (software and hardware); troubleshoot ISDN PRI/BRI; configure and verify the MGCP.

4. Call Control (25%)

This section is all about the following skills: describing the digit analysis process of the Cisco Unified Communications Manager; implementing toll fraud prevention on the Cisco Unified CM; describing MRA (Mobile and Remote Access); customizing globalized call routing within the Cisco Unified CM (SIP route patterns, transforms, standard local route group, translation patterns, and route patterns), etc.

5. QoS (10%)

Within this objective, the examinees should demonstrate that they are capable of describing problems that have the potential of leading to poor video and voice quality (bandwidth, packet loss, jitter, and latency); describing the QoS requirements for various application types (video and voice); describing the class models for offering QoS on a network (QoS Baseline model, 8 class model, and 4/5 Class model); describing the function and purpose of various DiffServ values as it relates to collaboration ( CS4, CS3, AF42, AF41, EF); configuring and verifying LLQ (class map, service policy, and policy map); describing as well as defining location-based CAC bandwidth requirements; describing QoS trust boundaries and their benefits in LAN-based classification and marking.

6. Collaboration Applications (10%)

This subject area revolves around deploying Cisco Jabber on premises; describing Cisco Unified IM&P deployment and protocol (high availability and XMPP); describing the Cisco Unity Connection call handlers; configuring the integration options for Cisco Unity Connection SIP to call control.
