Tracy, now I see why I was making it harder than I needed to. I was calculating the wrong octet. Here's what I found researching online:
0 10.1.0.0 10.1.0.1 10.1.15.254 10.1.15.255

Thank you Tracy for that. Yeah, I was doing it correctly but counting out in 16's to get to those numbers on a test is time consuming (at least for me) that's why I was kinda hoping there was a short cut. Ugh, ok, well I appreciate it. Let me just practice a few more!

Which IP addresses are valid for hosts belonging to the 10.1.160.0/20 subnet...Choose 3
The answers are: A, C, & D.
Hopefully, I can explain this to make sense. A /20 subnet requires 4094 total hosts and/or 16 subnets. Start first w/ your subnets by counting by increments of 16 (0, 16, 32, 48, etc.). The 10.1.160.XXX subnet starts at 10.1.160.0 and ends at 10.1.175.255, therefore the subnet address would be 10.1.160.0 and the broadcast address would be 10.1.175.255 making everything in between possible host addresses. As you can see in the list of choices, your broadcast and subnet addresses are listed and an IP from the NEXT subnet (10.1.176.1). Hope that helps.

Hi everyone, I need some help on one of the subnet questions from a previous dump on this thread. I'm having trouble understanding how to quickly determine the answer for the following subnet question. The question is:
Which IP addresses are valid for hosts belonging to the 10.1.160.0/20 subnet...Choose 3
I understand why option E cannot be correct because it is the network but how can I quickly compute the correct answers when the increment is 16? What am I missing to quickly solve this on a test? I had no problems getting the other subnet questions correct so I know my method is correct. Puzzled & any help is certainly appreciated!

@Laith, thank you for the advise. I tried to backup for previous date, did not work, a week before still not working, got an error saying something corrupted, restore unchanged, right now I'm screwed!!!
FYI...to whoever is going to download vce file on the upper-right of this screen here, it's version dated June 25th, 2012 and it will be $24.99 if you want to buy for a regular version like I had before, and don't make s mistake like me (DO NOT UPDATE!!). I don't have J-O-B, no money, I need to focus on my study, now I got distracted with this issue.
Could someone please...if you have saved the .VCE older version somewhere please share, help to rescue me with this issue (Please DO NOT include virus!!)
Thank you so much.

Hello Cisco friends,
Need help please! for some reason my VCE file became "Trial COPY" after it asked me to "Update Now" or cancel. After the program Window closed, I opened it again just like I normally would, then this window pops up, asking if I'd like to update to a newer version, so I clicked on "update now". Now, I can only view 5 questions at a time, unlike 339 or my choice. I clicked on Download IT (2.7 MB), it is the same thing. I went to cnet to download from there, got virus came with it. Unintalled/reinstall, clean up virus mess, still got trial COPY. Can someone please kindly advise me, I'm stuck! Thank you so much ahead.

@john // I did the same thing on this question as you did (port sec, VLAN) and I believe the correct answer is port security & PoE. I found some practice tests which had layer 3 FUNTIONALITY (as opposed to characteristics) as the Distribution layer. VLAN's were also mentioned in the Distribution layer questions. PoE was NOT the answer for questions association with the Distribution and Core layers.

On question "Which two characteristics describe the access layer of the hierarchical network design model? (Choose two)" I'd answer:
B. Port security;
D. VLAN's
and may be
E. PoE
Why A. Layer 3 support needed in access layer??

@john /// You may 'see' the POST test's, but you will not be 'prompted' to start the POST test's
thus if the answer for C was something like 'status of POST testing' , than you would have a valid argument.
hope this clears things up, but I know what you mean...just got to read carefully.

I think that the correct answer on the question "A PC is attached to the console port of a new Cisco router. Router is powered on. If the PC has been configured correctly for a console connection, what will the router display after it powers up?" is C " a series of prompts to run various POST tests" rather than D.
