microsoft, mcsd, web applications exams, windows azure, web services, visual studio, mvc 5, exam updatesHappy April Fools day everyone! Did you come up with any good jokes? We sure hope you enjoy some friendly pranks today, but you won’t find any jokes here. We mean business!
So, on an absolutely serious note, we are informing you that Microsoft has announced the updates to its MCSD: Web Applications exams, both 70-486 (Developing ASP.NET MVC 4 Web Applications) and 70-487 (Developing Windows Azure and Web Services). The changes are meant to keep students current with the latest web application development trends.

Therefore, starting April 30, 2014, candidates will be given the updated versions of the exams, which will be covering solutions based on Visual Studio 2013, MVC 5, and recent developments in Windows Azure.

As it’s usually done with exam updates, Microsoft has compiled all changes in the form of side-by-side comparisons of exam objectives, and these PDFs are now available on the official website (under the Skills Measured section:

What’s important to remember though that while the exam numbers will not change, the MVC version will be removed from the titles of Exam 70-486. Also, Microsoft has apparently disappointed the candidates by stating that they would not update the related Microsoft Official Courseware (MOC) for now. So, beware and make sure you’re not fully relying on the outdated MOC.

As Web Application and Azure development go hand-in-hand, Microsoft has also extended the upgrade path for MCPD: Web Developer 4 to MCPD: Windows Azure Developer credential holders:

So, if you’ve been planning to take these MCSD exams in May or later, your syllabus has just grown bigger. But we know you can do it! Best of luck folks.
