1. Cisco DevNet

Okay, the next thing we’ll try to get into something called Cisco DevNet. So DevNet DevNet is again a Cisco developer program and this program is going to help the developers and the It professionals. So probably what they can do is they can write their own applications and develop their applications and integrate those things with the Cisco products and the platforms.

So probably this DevNet is more relevant to something called developers. Now developers who are responsible for developing some, as I said, some applications, okay? So probably in order to do that, they require some kind of coding, okay? So probably what they are going to do some kind of coding to write an application and that application how it can be used with a specific Cisco infrastructure or the Cisco platforms or the APIs used with Cisco.

So either they can develop a specific application which can be integrated with Cisco, or the Cisco itself offers you some kind of APIs, the APIs for communication between the applications or something called software development kits. And these are the options which are already present with the Cisco. So probably the developer can actually use them to integrate those things in their own networks or as per the requirements.

So what they can do is they can integrate those things in any other vendor as well. And also they can do some kind of automation where they can transform most of the manual job by with the help of these developed applications or the codes or integrating the existing applications in their own networks, they can change the manual process to the automated process. So that’s what Cisco DevNet is a kind of separate track which majorly focuses on kind of software programming side where you are going to develop some kind of codes for making the automation process or integrating with your existing network infrastructure. How we can automate things.

Apart from that develop the Cisco devoted have a specific sign of community. Probably where you have something around five hundred K. Five hundred thousand developers who are coding with the Cisco devices. So probably what you can do is you can access to those specific codes means you don’t need to develop the code. So if your requirement matches with any specific kind of other requirements, you can actually use those specific codes to integrate within your network, you can access them or you can also collaborate with some other projects which are already running, which are the projects, what they are already used, or even you can share your own course. So probably what you can do is you can share your course with the community so that the other people can also get benefited with your course. So the DevNet offers you some kind of community.

You’ll find these options if you go to the specific website developers Cisco. com. And here you can see a lot of details. You can find here, you can see here what they offer. They will provide you some learning tracks and video courses from where you can learn the options. And also there is something called sandbox. Sandbox is like the virtual network access given to you. I’ll talk about that in a separate video and you can exchange the course. You can do a lot of things and on different platforms. So it’s not specific to, again, one platform. It can be relevant to cloud or networking or it can be a data center automation, or it can be kind of security automation or mobility options. So there are different options here. Again, as I said, there will be two options. Either you might be a developer who probably Cisco provides you inbuilt APIs and the software development kits that can be used in your production network.

2. DevNet Certifications

And whatever the certifications, what you will see like in the basic certification concepts you’ll see in the Cisco, you have something called DevNet certifications. Now these DevNet certifications are more into the kind of coding here, like software kind of certifications. Now, if you compare this DevNet certification, like the traditional certifications, what we have, like we have something called CCNA, CCMP and CCIE in different tracks. We have enterprise track now, and then security and then data center. Different multiple tracks. Now these specific tracks are more focused on the certifications for the It professionals and the network in this. Okay, so again, this Cisco DevNet certifications is specifically designed to validate the software skills.

The software development skills are using the APIs. So whatever I explained previously, so the software skills include again the programming or developing applications or developing some developed operations and automation related options. Like you might be doing some enterprise automation or cloud automation, cloud network automation or data center network automation. Or it can be service portal related automation task. So where you are a network engineer and you want to automate your tasks. So you have different specializations in that.

So with these certifications, probably the Cisco is expecting you to have some kind of, some kind of coding skills like the Python skills or JSON data format options and understanding and using the rest APIs. And also apart from that, you also need to understand the Cisco platform capabilities. Like let’s say you are trying to do some kind of automation for security. Then you need to understand how the security devices behave, how they work, how they are configured, a little bit more details on that. You don’t need to be expertise, but you need to know the behavior so that you can develop the code for the automation of the security.

So similar way, depending upon which track you choose for automation or which platform you work, depending upon that, you will be responsible for developing some kind of codes probably with these DevNet certifications here. So once you are done with the certifications, any specialization, so you’ll be able to build some kind of software applications as a part of the team and you can build some kind of network automation scripts to automate your task. And also you can build some kind of tools which can be used for logging, monitoring as well as testing your network. So again, in this you have different tracks, you have something called DevNet Associate, more like a Cisco CCNA, where you are going to build some foundations of the software skills, more like a basic foundational skills where you understand the different automation tools and then the APIs.

So whatever the concepts we covered in the basic SDM, probably most of the concepts will be covered here. And once you are done with this, you can move on to the specialist certification. Now, this is where you will start focusing on specific specialization like whether you want to automate the enterprise network like routing switching network or whether you want to automate your cloud networks or data center networks or service portal networks like that. You go into the individual specialization depending upon your interest and the requirements.

And then you can go with something called DevNet core paper plus any one specialization paper or concentration paper. You can get your CCNP certification. CCNP? DevNet Professional. You get that’s what? DevNet Professional? That’s what we call as not exactly CCNP. And also there is a DevNet Expert level certification. So as of now there is no expert level program am at this point of time but probably in the future cisco expects to release sometime in the future where you will be having a definite.

3. DevNet Sandbox

The next thing we’ll try to understand something called sandbox, cisco DevNet sandbox. Now, the Cisco DevNet sandbox is more like on demand access for any Cisco device or technology or for developers to develop the tools. So you can compare this sandbox as a kind of virtual lab access, which will be provided by the Cisco pay of cost, where you can log in and access to those to those sandboxes. So let’s try to understand a little bit on this. Take an example if I’m a developer where I’m developing some kind of codes, or maybe I’m an architect or the manager of a company where I want to install some new products and test and see how it works. Or maybe I’m just a beginner or a learner who wants to learn something like DNA topic.

Or maybe I want to see how I can use some kind of automation software or automation tools to be deployed in your network, how the codes are going to work. Probably you want to test those things. Now, to do all these things, basically what you require is you need to have some kind of hardware, dedicated hardware. And then of course, you need to have some kind of license keys and also the network set up at the back end required so that you can test and verify and of course, the devices involved in that pipeline network. So more like a real time network is something what is required. But again, as a beginner, as a learner, or maybe as a developer, I cannot test and test and do the things on the real production network.

So probably what you want to do is you want to do some kind of testing before you actually deploy that in your network and see how that particular code or specific applications, how they exactly work and how they behave, and before you actually integrate that in your network. And that’s what exactly the sandbox is going to provide you. So the Cisco DevNet sandbox is going to provide you some kind of on demand access, just like you can say like a remote access rack, on demand access for different Cisco technology products. Like if you’re doing some kind of data center automation, you can go access to the Cisco ACI. And if you want to access the Cisco DNA, you can use that even if you are doing some kind of cloud or virtualized or security. You can simulate or automate with a fire power device.

So there are plenty of technologies you have. You can explore those technologies and also you can integrate some kind of third party solutions and the development tools free of cost. Okay, so the DevNet is going to offer somewhere around 60 plus currently there are around 60 technology sandboxes.

Now, each kind of virtual lab is referred as a sandbox. So you can just compare the sandbox as one kind of dedicated setup or one kind of dedicated lab which is ready for you where you can schedule it and you can access remotely from your place. So this is something available from the portal page. I will see that portal page as well. Apart from that, it also provides you some kind of training videos as well as some kind of documentation and even some links blogs.

And also there are some community forums where you can go and ask where you can refer to them. You can refer to them if you are stuck anywhere. If you want to upgrade your skills, you can use those resources to learn as well. So as I said, the sandboxes are used for developing a development of specific software or automation software. Or even you can do test your APIs, probably how they behave.

Or even you can configure a specific product like as I said, Cisco ACI for data center automation or wireless LAN controllers or Cisco DNA or any other product relating to that, where you can also use it for training purposes for the remote access. And also there is something called hackathons. Probably this is where the programmers involved in developing some kind of software development projects. So it is like a group of individuals creating a functional software and of course many more you can do. So again, as I said, it is totally free and each sandbox is going to highlight a different Cisco products. Like there are some categories you will see and depending upon the category, let’s say you want to do a data center automation.

And if you go to this category you will find the different data center automation options and the software tools and the different options available over there. Now you can use this URL to visit the website developers Cisco. com site sandbox. Now I can see this is the URL from where you can go with and once you click on this URL, it is going to ask you the login information. So the different login options you will have normally I’m already logged in here, let me just quickly log out and log in again.

Okay, now this is how it looks for the first time when you click on this. So you need to say click get started with sandbox. So when you click on this you can find the different options you can use for logging. You can use any one of your options, you can use your Cisco ID or any other options. Probably all options will work. So I’m using my Cisco ID here to login and of course it’s.
