I'm sad for you.I took the exam 70-444 last June 10, 2010 and passed with a score of 943. The survey in the beginning doesn't affect the score.There are 50 questions all are multiple choice and no simumation.For me this is the easiest exam for the MCITP-DBA track. I used the dump from this Microsoft.selftestengine.70-444.v6.0.by.Certblast.104q and Microsoft.ActualTests.70-444.by.Micro1.121q. My next exam is 70-443, hopefully before June 30, 2010 I can take the exam to avail the Free Second Shot if ever I fail in the exam, but hopefully not.I have 2 weeks to prepare for 70-443.

2-Best Practices. (isa best practices, iis best practices,for example)
3-CheatSheets.
4-Autority in the Technology(the better guys, the blog of this guys, for example: fabio hara, danilo bordini, atila arruda, just some examples, gotcha'?).
5-Videos about the technologya( CBT Nuggets and Trainsignal are the best, VTC is good to).
6-Training Kits, Resource Kits, and Microsoft Official Curriculums(MOCs)
7-In google images, you can type technology you wanna learn, and see the architecture, how it works, and some other things, more popular the technology is, more images about it you will find. is a good way to learn.
8-Remember the power of RSS. Is so much places you will find interesting, dont just put it in your favoreties, coz' if you reinstall your windows?.. Make an back of rss of sites you like.. ;o)
9-In 4shared, you can put <technology_name> <wmv asf avi swf> to find a lot of videos about some kind of technology
10-Other thing i like too much, and probably some of you too, are CheckLists, it helps remember what is important, the steps to do the things, i really appreciate that, pretty cool. for example: windows server checklist, active directory checklist, wsus checklist, rras checklist, radius checklist, etc.
11-know the best sites, know the best guys, it helps a lot!

And i said for you to get the 2 titles, becoz':
1-You will be Pro in 2 different databases;(2 different versions of the same platform, if you can thik that way)
2-Will achieve more knowledge of the RDBMS, and more knowledge in the SQL Server Platform point of view;
3-Plus, with being DBA SQL 2005, will be less study to achieve DBA SQL 2008.

As i see, and probably you too, as the other guys..
The BiggeST problem in be an Generalist DBA, and what make some guys dont follow this path, is, more tools, more study, more work.
In an long view, you will become more tired, and stressed, becoz' will be many things to study, practice, and to work.
Will be needed more time to get really pro in all the tools
Example: SQL Server, Oracle, MySQL, DB2, ADABAS,PostGre..Can you imagine?..
DBAs i knew, started with 18/19 years, with 30 or more they knew SQL, Oracle, and MySQL, some Postgre too.. remember that the time in market, the experience, the age of pro, is all important.. you must consider all the factors..

Yeah Maha, you're right.

But, i don't think the upgrade exam for DBA SQL 2008 cover only the new things.

But, i have other point of view too, and probably, you are thinkin' this way too.
What i think is, that an DBA knows more than one RDBMS, and so, you must know other RDBMS than SQL Server. (And waste less money for achieve this too, sure)

So, the idea is, you get DBA SQL 2005, and after, you make the upgrade exam for DBA SQL 2008, and then, make Oracle exams to become OCA DBA 10g. Is it?

You will waste less money to achieve this. :o)

What i suggest 4 u too, is you study the microsoft program "professional 5 stars" in SQL 2005.

And, this is my other point of view: with you becomming really good in SQL 2005, i dont think the upgrade exam for SQL 2008 will be necessary, unless your customer say for you to you do it.. :o(
And, from this point ( SQL 2005 DBA ) , you can go for Oca Dba 10g.

But, as i said be4, in the other posts, the choice is yours.

I think, you need think, what type of DBA you wanna be?
"Fokuzed"? Or "Generalist"?
Got it?
1-If you wanna be Generalist, less exams you do, better for you, more tools you will work, will be better for you.(in little time)
If you wanna be "fokuzed" in SQL Server, get the two DBA titles, study and work hard with it, and prepare to go for MCM and MCA plans.(in long time, will be better for you, will be specialist, with consolidated career, and so on)

May should you be more specific with the VCEs for SQL 2005, pls? ;o)

i agree to the point that new features exists in SQL 2008 which will be taken care of the upgrade exam? questions will be from those new features which are missing in sql 2005.

still. as you suggest, its a good idea to keep both titles in order not to left behind the crowd.

so let me finish this one and try the 2 also.

I will be more specific with you, for you to know.

1 - As you know, more logics you work, more versatile guy you are, and more intelligent you become.
You will work with same logics sometimes, and new logics in SLQ 2008, that probably, some of that, you will see you can do in SQL 2005, and others not, sure..

2 - PLus, you won't be that "obtuse" guy, you will open your mind, this happens when you work with a variety of logics, and different logics.

I think have 2 titles will be best for you, becoz' of these 2 factors.

But, as i said be4(before), the choice is yours.

So, How Much you Know, Stronger you are..

1 - You won't waste your money, you will getting great knowledge!!!

2 - If you want an work for "yesterday", and achieve an work "fast", then, you wanna be an DBA SQL 2005.

3 - As you know, softwares have license prices, and much places doesn't upgrades their softwares, coz' of that.. So, if you are an DBA SQL 2005 is a great idea!, and DBA SQL 2008 is a Plus..(One day they will Up for SQL 2008 too, remember that)

4 - As i said before, if you want a chance of "grow up" in your job, then you wanna be DBA SQL 2008 too..

5 - There aren't sql 2000 certifications no more. So, if you are DBA in SQL 2005 and 2008, you may/can say, you are specialist in SQL Server InfraStructure DataBases (in Microsoft Point of View, sure) . Gotcha' ?

6 - As you know, probably you eard that, that certifications of microsoft about today are easiest than before, what much guys agree..
For Example: 1- to be dba in sql 2005 is harder than dba in sql 2008..
2- and to be mcsa in w2k3 server is harder than mcitp:sa in w2k8 server..

7 - I think have 2 titles will be better for you. For your knowledge, and for jobs.

8 - I remember.. i think there is a microsoft promo.. when u make 3 exams or more than 3 exams.. check that..

Now, reading better what you wrote..i don't know if you want to be only DBA 2008 or get both credentials..so, look..

When you make an upgrade exam, you become it..
So, if you make 70-453 , you will transition your Mcitp DBA 2005 for MCitp DBA 2008, becoming Mcitp DBA 2008, you won't get both titles(credentials), got it?

So, to be an DBA 2005 !-AND-! DBA 2008 you need to do:
DBA 2005: 70-431, -443, and -444.
!-AND-!
DBA 2008: 70-432, -450.
Doing this way, you will get both titles(credentials), becoming DBA 2005 !-AND-! DBA 2008. :o)

To be DBA and DBD in SQL 2005 you need to do: 70-431, 70-441, 70-442, 70-443, and 70-444.
To be DBA and DBD in SQL 2008 you need to do: 70-432 and 70-450, and, 70-433 and 70-451.
But, what i ear is the skills come from SQL 2005 formation..
I'm thinking in do 70-431,- 432, and -450.
In SQL 2008 formation, plus 1 exam less(less cust $$$), and, plus no sims.
You need think in your situation, and in what you want, it is simple. :o)

If you really want be an SQL 2005 DBA, you need to do these: 70-431, 70-443, and 70-444.
I was reading in forum, that 70-431 have 35q and 12sims, and that the sims for 2005 made by baaly aren't valid no more..
To be SQL 2008 DBA you need to do these: 70-432 and 70-450.
Plus, as i read in forum, 70-432 doesn't have sims, so, is more easy to be an SQL 2008 DBA.
Look for training kits, resource kits, mocs(microsoft official curriculums),look for unleashed series books, search for videos from cbt nuggets for 70-431 and 70-450, they are great! (You can find these in 4shared and thepiratebay(the videos))..
Well, this is it..
I thin this way:
1) If you work with sql 2005.. go for it!..
2) If you don't work yet, go for sql 2008!..
3) If you wanna have chance of "grow" in your enterprise and market, go for both!
4) What i'm seeing some guys doing, is making 70-431,-432, and -450, so, those guys will have strong infrastructure skill.. you can do this too ig you want..
