Preparing for the current LSAT requires a different distribution of effort from many older online plans. Since August 2024, the scored multiple-choice exam has included two Logical Reasoning sections and one Reading Comprehension section, together with a fourth unscored variable section. Analytical Reasoning, often called Logic Games, is no longer part of the current scored format. A plan that reserves one-third of study time for diagramming old games is aimed at the wrong version.<\/p>\n

The official LSAT specifications<\/a> describe four 35-minute sections and a 10-minute intermission between sections two and three. A useful preparation framework has three pillars: analytical control in Logical Reasoning, sustained comprehension of written arguments and precise error review under time constraints. These pillars reinforce each other without turning the plan into a generic motivation routine.<\/p>\n

Pillar one: identify argument structure before selecting an answer<\/h3>\n

Logical Reasoning questions often ask what an argument assumes, which inference follows or what information would strengthen or weaken a conclusion. Before reading the answer choices, distinguish the author\u2019s conclusion from supporting premises. A statement that describes the background of a debate is not necessarily the conclusion the author is defending.<\/p>\n

Take this original example: \u201cThe library extended its hours, and more students visited. Therefore, longer hours caused the increase.\u201d The premise is a correlation; the conclusion asserts causation. A relevant weakening consideration is another change that might explain attendance, such as the start of a new exam period. Learn to articulate that gap in plain language before assessing polished answer options.<\/p>\n

Review attractive wrong answers carefully. Some are true but irrelevant; others go further than the conclusion requires. Keep a record of the precise reasoning step you missed. Improvement in Logical Reasoning comes from recognizing assumptions and limitations, not simply consuming a high volume of question sets.<\/p>\n

Pillar two: read for the architecture of the passage<\/h3>\n

Reading Comprehension calls for understanding the author’s perspective, how different claims relate and what the passage supports. During practice, summarize each paragraph\u2019s function in a few words: presenting a position, explaining an objection, supplying evidence or resolving a tension. That is more effective than attempting to remember every detail without understanding the argument.<\/p>\n

Practice distinguishing direct evidence from inference and the writer\u2019s view from views attributed to other scholars. When two passages address the same issue differently, locate the exact point of disagreement. A large vocabulary can help, but careful tracking of logical relationships is often the more transferable skill.<\/p>\n

Pillar three: make review diagnostic and timed practice realistic<\/h3>\n

Use the current official LawHub practice tests<\/a> to experience the four-section interface and legitimate time constraints. Maintain a log of question type, confidence, time consumed and error explanation. Revisit the item before reading the answer rationale. Ask whether you missed a premise, misread a qualifier or relied on outside knowledge.<\/p>\n

Timed practice should follow untimed accuracy building, but not be postponed indefinitely. Under time pressure, a student may need to skip a question temporarily rather than sacrifice several easier ones. Rehearse the interface tools and section transitions, including the official intermission and check-in requirements where applicable.<\/p>\n

Account for test delivery and separate writing requirements<\/h3>\n

LSAC has announced a move toward test-center administration for most candidates starting in August 2026, subject to limited remote-testing exceptions. Confirm your personal appointment and accommodations through LSAC rather than assume any online practice environment represents your permitted delivery mode. The LSAT also includes an Argumentative Writing component governed by its own instructions; it should not be confused with one of the four multiple-choice sections.<\/p>\n

Track the outcome of each pillar separately. If reading speed improves but assumption questions remain weak, your next sessions should shift accordingly. If timed performance lags untimed performance, rehearse pacing without abandoning conceptual review.
