The free VMware Associate-level exam promotion discussed in the original article belongs to an earlier stage of VMware certification. It should not be treated as a working voucher offer in October 2026. The original post dates to November 2013; a promotion that was useful to candidates then is not evidence that registration codes, associated exam versions, or redemption conditions remain valid now. Anyone preparing for VMware certification should distinguish that historical announcement from the current VMware by Broadcom credential catalog.

VMware previously used promotions to introduce candidates to entry-level virtualization credentials. Such offers could lower the cost of trying a new examination and encourage administrators, students, and career changers to learn the vocabulary of virtualization. They did not make every VMware examination permanently free, nor did they establish a lasting examination entitlement. The value was tied to the original enrollment window, eligible examination and voucher conditions.

That distinction matters because a blog URL can survive for years after an offer has ended. A reader arriving through a search result may encounter an apparently useful old promotional headline without noticing the publication date. The responsible interpretation is historical: the article documents one period of VMware certification marketing, not a present-day discount announcement. We are not supplying an old promotional code or telling readers to enter one at checkout.

The current VMware by Broadcom certification model includes professional credentials built around VMware vSphere Foundation and VMware Cloud Foundation. For example, the VMware Certified Professional – VMware vSphere Foundation Administrator credential validates work on private-cloud environments using vSphere Foundation. Broadcom lists the relevant exam as 2V0-16.25, with topics such as deploying, operating, and maintaining the environment. That is a different reader task from obtaining a free introductory exam voucher.

A virtualization administrator should first identify the technology being managed. Someone operating a vSphere Foundation environment needs different coverage from an engineer responsible for a broader VMware Cloud Foundation deployment or someone focused on troubleshooting and private-cloud security. The credential label may share VMware branding, but the expected operational responsibilities vary substantially. Confirm the specific certification and exam on Broadcom’s official pages before buying training materials.

Start with the official certification page for the precise exam. Check the exam code, delivery provider, registration link, language, price and any prerequisites or recommended courses shown for that examination. If a discount is advertised, confirm its terms at the issuer or authorized seller rather than relying on a reposted code. Check whether the offer applies to your country, account, test delivery method and chosen exam version.

Avoid purchasing a code solely because a third-party page presents an attractive percentage discount. A voucher may be expired, tied to a different exam, restricted to a particular organization, or usable only during a time-limited campaign. An otherwise real promotional code can become unusable after a program change. Keep the order and issuer confirmation if you legitimately purchase a voucher, and treat an unverified code as unverified rather than as money saved.

Read the current exam guide first. Identify the platform versions and objectives, then build a lab plan that lets you perform the tasks described. For a foundation administrator, practical work may include virtual-machine lifecycle management, host and cluster administration, resource monitoring, access controls, and maintenance planning. The precise list should come from the exam guide rather than assumptions carried over from an older VMware Associate syllabus.

Map each objective to a configuration or troubleshooting exercise. When a task fails, document the symptom, the evidence consulted, the change made and the verification result. This method produces operational competence and prepares candidates for scenario-oriented assessment more effectively than memorizing isolated product labels. Keep notes about commands and interfaces that changed with newer platform releases so old tutorials do not become false practice instructions.

Training costs deserve attention, but exam eligibility and practical preparation deserve equal weight. A low-cost exam taken without current skills can be a poor investment. A properly chosen certification supported by hands-on experience can provide more useful evidence of competence than an obsolete badge obtained under an old promotional arrangement.

The 2013 promotion does not determine today’s exam prices, renewal rules, credential names or recommended training. Even when an old article correctly describes what happened during the promotion, those facts should remain attached to that period. Broadcom now publishes its own exam and credential pages, which are the correct place to establish present availability and program conditions.
