CompTIA has released two new exams for its A+ certification track: CompTIA A+ 220-901 and 220-902. By implementing new tests within it’s A+ credential, CompTIA keeps up with the latest technology trends and verifies all the up-to-dated skills required for qualified IT Technical Support Professional.

The 900 A+ Series are designed for the industry professionals working within IT Technical Support and Operations. Both 220-901 and 220-902 Exams are mandatory in order to get certified and will replace previous CompTIA A+ 220-801 and CompTIA A+ 220-802 corresponding exams, when the old ones will be discontinued. As for now candidates can take both 800 and 900 Series Exams, but starting from 1st of July 2016 220-801 and 220-802 exams will be retired.

CompTIA A+ certification is one of the most demanded and popular credentials in IT Industry. It has already helped more than 1 million IT professionals from all over the world boost their career. By obtaining CompTIA A+ certification you will validate your technical skills and differentiate yourself from the crowd. It will let you obtain both entry level jobs in case you are just starting or get desired raise in your company. CompTIA A+ is a vendor neutral certification which proves your ability to work with all the relevant types of hardware and software, often A+ Credential has being a prerequisite for more advanced vendor certifications.

Important thing to keep in mind, that if you are studying for 220-801 or 220-802 exam at the moment or already hold it and looking forward for taking other mandatory A+ certification exam, you should do it before the retirement of 800 series, since you cannot  mix old and new exams. If you haven’t started your studying yet, the best thing to do is start with 220-901 or 220-902 exam directly as the most up-to-dated and convenient options.

As for the moment you can take CompTIA A+ 220-901 and 220-902 exams and 220-801 or 220-802 exams globally at Pearson VUE Testing Centers. To register for the exam simply visit their official website and purchase the exam voucher via the CompTIA Marketplace. Each exam costs 199$ and is 90 minutes long, containing maximum of 90 performance-based and multiple-choice questions. CompTIA A+ Certification remains valid for three years after the exams.

Passing scores for both old and new exams are as following:

–       220-801: 675 (on the 900 scale)

–       220-802: 700 (on the 900 scale)

–       220-901: 675 (on the 900 scale)

–       220-902: 700 (on the 900 scale)

Overall new CompTIA+ Exams are very similar to the old ones, and 75% of the exam objectives replicate the previous versions. The outdated technologies have been eliminated and the new ones added. Thus you will not have to prove your skills in Rambus, CRTs or Windows XP, while you will be asked to demonstrate your knowledge in Windows 8, Mac OS, Linux, and Windows Phone f.e..

The main difference in the new and old exams’ composition is that 900 Series is more autonomous than 800 exams. While for 220-802 exam you have been expected to know all the troubleshooting processes from both 220-801 and 220-802 exams, here in 220-901 and 220-902 exams troubleshooting domains are not interlinked. So now you don’t have to study more than one exam curriculum at the time, before starting studying for the next one.

CompTIA A+ Exam Objectives:

CompTIA A+ 220-801 & 220-802 evaluate candidates’ fundamental technology skills such as  installing, configuring and managing software on PC and mobile devices, networking and security.
