I am updating the dump as we speak. The discussed answer will be used the link will be shared in a moment. if others could upload the document and post link here as well that would be great. Also I will upload to this site which will take a few days.

My two cents on the FT question is this:
THE LICENSING MODEL SHOWS WHAT FEATURES you get with that version of vSphere. Therefore FT is only available with vCenter. no more debating this because we are going off on a tangent. I am sticking with the answers so far. The dump will have around 5-8 questions when I am done

Sorry, I am not sure the right answer for Q4. It says "to be migrated to another datastore" so "C" might be the correct one. VMware Data Recovery is just for a copy and for backup purpose.

Q2: Is anyone can check whether we are able to create FT by using command line? PowerCLI? Script? I guess that we still have possibilities to create FT without vCenter?

Thanks for your comments sim and sserg

I agree with sim about Q2 (ADE), phrase "Which of the following are only available with vCenter Server" is ambiguous. vCenter Server is needed initially to create FT VMs (like HA).

Hi Anthony

Q2 looks like a really tricky quiz, because existing Resource Pools are available without vCenter Server (I can't create a new one, but I see and edit settings (!) of existing resource pools if I connected directly to ESXi 5.0 host with vSphere Client).

About FT, I agree that FT like HA don't need vCenter Server for function, once it initially configured with vCenter. Thinking.=) I prefer answers: ADE
Any other suggestions about resource pools?

Hi Anthony,

As for Q3 it is true that fault tolerance will go on even if vCenter is unavailable in that moment, but it has to be installed in order to configure Fault Tolerance:
"
What happens if vCenter Server is offline when a failover event occurs?
Once Fault Tolerance is configured for a virtual machine, vCenter Server need not be online for FT to work. Even if vCenter Server is offline, failover will still occur from the primary to the secondary virtual machine. Additionally, the spawning of a new secondary virtual machine will also occur without vCenter Server."

Congratulations sim! (and your husband) and thanks for your info.

Hi sserg

Q2. Which of the following are only available with vCenter Server? (choose 3) . I would answer CDE.
For resource pool the option to create resource pools is disabled unless VMware DRS is enabled on the cluster.
http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US&cmd=displayKC&externalId=1004098

The FT can continue without a vCenter.
Page 9 of vsphere-esxi-vcenter-server-50-availability-guide.pdf
-----------------------------------
The entire process is transparent and fully automated and occurs even if vCenter
Server is unavailable.

Q4. I would answer AC.

Thanks

Hi,

I have just came back from the exam. I passed with 439 (and my husband who studied from the same dump passed with 417).

I have 6 new questions. I remember a few:
Q1. What kind of traffic can be priorized with Network I/O Control (choose 3):
a) virtual machine;
b) vmotion
c) fault tolerance
d) FCoE
e) hardware dependent iSCSI adapter
(I believe it is a, b, c)

Q2. Which of the following are only available with vCenter Server? (choose 3)
a) fault tolerance
b) thin provisioning
c) resource pool
d) update manager
e) vmotion
(I answered a, d, e)

Q3. A client wants to create a virtual machine with intense I/O traffic. Which type of disk should he choose? (choose 2):
A) thick provisioned
B) Flat disk
C) Raw mapped device
D) Thin provisioned

Q4. Which of the following allows the virtual disk of a VM to be migrated to another datastore? (choose 2):
a) storage vmotion
b) vmotion
c) VMware data recovery
d) VM migrated in suspended state

For the moment this is all I can remember. If I remember anything else I will come back :)

If Q4 is multi-choice right answer is:

When coordinating the VMware NMP and any installed third-party MPPs, the PSA performs the following tasks:
- Handles physical path discovery and removal.
- Implements logical device bandwidth sharing between virtual machines.

i.e. in qiuz:
1) Implements logical devices bandwidth sharing
4) Manage physical path claiming and unclaiming

to deibel, tellevery1

http://pubs.vmware.com/vsphere-50/topic/com.vmware.ICbase/PDF/vsphere-esxi-vcenter-server-50-storage-guide.pdf, page 158

When coordinating the VMware NMP and any installed third-party MPPs, the PSA performs the following tasks:
- Loads and unloads multipathing plug-ins.
- Hides virtual machine specifics from a particular plug-in.
- Routes I/O requests for a specific logical device to the MPP managing that device.
- Handles I/O queueing to the logical devices.
- Implements logical device bandwidth sharing between virtual machines.
- Handles I/O queueing to the physical storage HBAs.
- Handles physical path discovery and removal.
- Provides logical device and physical path I/O statistics

quiz
When coordinating the VM NMP and any installed 3-party MPP, what the PSA performs?
1) Implements logical devices bandwidth sharing
2) Process I/O request to logical devices
3) Associate physical path with logical devices
4) Manage physical path claiming and unclaiming

So, if this is single-choice quiz answer is
1) Implements logical devices bandwidth sharing (between virtual machines)

For Q3 the reference is this part of the vsphere 5 documentation:
"You can move the threshold slider to use one of five settings, ranging from Conservative to Aggressive. The five migration settings generate recommendations based on their assigned priority level. Each setting you move the slider to the right allows the inclusion of one more lower level of priority. The Conservative setting generates only priority-one recommendations (mandatory recommendations), the next level to the right generates priority-two recommendations and higher, and so on, down to the Aggressive level which generates priority-five recommendations and higher (that is, all recommendations.)"

The dump is pretty valid.

If you update this dump you need to be sure to note the changes you are making and why. This dump is pretty close to be spot on. Most questions have been discussed and researched by groups of people sharing inputs. Again, just note the changes and why.

This site takes 3 days to load a new dump to it. AGAIN if you dont want to wait post to here:

Q10 Maybe you are right?

http://communities.vmware.com/docs/DOC-11812

-This is the round-trip latency in storage stack.

The KAVG value should be very small in comparison to the DAVG value and should be close to zero. When there is a lot of queuing in ESX, KAVG can be as high, or even higher than DAVG. If this happens, please check the queue statistics, which will be discussed next.

Using v4 dumps is enough for a pass (though not great I imagine)
Few new questions, such as -

2) using a stretched ha configuration, across 2 sites, what port needs to be allowed through the firewall.
3) another reservation question, not too hard!

Good luck all!

Q21: I have just found this blog entry: http://www.lavmug.org/2010/03/cannot-deploy-template-orphaned-template/. I understand that if a template is orphaned, the option "Deploy virtual machine from template" is greyed out, which means it is unavailable.

I also tried in my lab to rename the .vmtx file to .vtmxa and option still appears and it works fine. Even if you rename the file extensions, the virtual machine can be deployed from template.

So for this question the correct answers should be: B,C.

Q21: AC. For may understanding the question is just asking that when the "Deploy Virtual Machine form this template" option is unavailable? I had tested if you disconnect the ESXi host which the template resides, therefore the option is unavailable. If you connect to a ESXi host or use vSphere Web Client even the template is not there, so only AC is possible answer.

Q64: AB.
Q73: D. Please look at the explanation there, "from which you access the vSphere Web Client" That is the remote client that currently you are running, no need to connect to ESXi.
Q108: AC, Just read the explanation section again, it is right there.
Q112: BCE.
Q128: CDE. I have read the VMW_Netioc_BestPractices.pdf again and the B is a bad one because Limits enforces the dvUplink level not a VM. E is correct.
-----
Shares
A user can specify the relative importance of a given resource-pool flow using shares that are enforced at the dvUplink level. The underlying dvUplink bandwidth is then divided among resource-pool flows based on their relative shares in a work-conserving way. This means that unused capacity will be redistributed to other contending flows and won't go to waste. As shown in Figure 1, the network flow scheduler is the entity responsible for enforcing shares and therefore is in charge of the overall arbitration under overcommitment. Each resource-pool flow has its own dedicated software queue inside the scheduler so that packets from a given resource pool won't be dropped due to high utilization by other flows.
Limits
A user can specify an absolute shaping limit for a given resource-pool flow using a bandwidth capacity limiter. As opposed to shares that are enforced at the dvUplink level, limits are enforced on the overall vDS set of dvUplinks, which means that a flow of a given resource pool will never exceed a given limit for a vDS out of a given vSphere host.

Ruffel - Why don't you upload your VCE file to megaupload or any other free site and provide the link here. Your VCE to appear here will take couple of days. Just a suggestion.
It looks like version 4.0 has helped many people to pass the exam today. I can't want to take the exam next week.
Luczac has released version 4.1 with more corrections. FYI.

These are not all my corrections, but I did use these answers on my exam.

I still think Q137 is B D E.
A added function in vSphere 5 is that you now can use Storage I/O control on NFS datastores. I know you can use only a single extent, but I cannot find anything about a VMFS extent related to SIOC.

64: B D
73: D
78: B D
96: A B D
103: A B E
126: B D
134: This question has only 3 choices on the exam. I corrected this question.
137 B D E

Also I added 3 new questions.

Errors seen in V4:
I don't have the manager, perhaps someone can correct the answeres.

Restart the Management Agents in ESXi ->
Either you use services.sh restart or you use DCUI and choose Restart Management Network - not Management Agents.

You cannot delete an NFS datastore, you can only Unmount!

You cannot upgrade the vCSA, you have to deploy a new one and copy configuration data, see http://pubs.vmware.com/vsphere-50/index.jsp?topic=/com.vmware.vsphere.upgrade.doc_50/GUID-6A5C596D-103E-4024-9353-5569263EB427.html

resxtop doesn't exist

High Priority vMotions -> A+C would be correct regarding the text in the explanation

Configuring admission control -> according to the text in the explanation I would choose AB not BC

Host Isolation Response defailt -> The responses are:
Leave powered on (the default), Power off, and Shut down. You can customize this property for individual
virtual machines.
So when Network Isolation occures and cluster is on default settings, choose B not A

Features of a Distributed Switch: NetFlow, NIOC and INGRESS traffic shaping. Egress can be done by Standard and Distributed switch.

q - 150 is A and B
See:
http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US&cmd=displayKC&externalId=1004790

q 135 - is C and D. tested in my lab I think its proof enough. its talks abuot "ESXi" host not cluster. catchy words there.
http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?cmd=displayKC&externalId=1005566

q.125
This changed with vsphere 5 - check your lab for the default settings. its A and B i think with vsphere 5 - there isnt a graceful shutdown button. only shutdown and its link to graceful now.

q36 is B AND C - why the hell would just high restart be started on esxi host? no where does it say that - it says starting FIRST with high then so on and so on until well it can turn anymore on.

q72
Says nothing about Config Manager updating vCenter VSA - only way is option B. sorry man your gonna have to bite the bullet unless you can show some proof. VSA has some major limitations. sure you can update or patch the linux VM but that isnt and "Upgrade" it is a tricky question.
http://www.vmware.com/pdf/vcenter-configuration-manager-541-hardware-software-requirements-guide.pdf

q 103 mr. bob you are RIGHT
Jesus NFS is a filer. and YOU CANNOT install esxi to NFS. you can place a ANSWER FILE but you cannot RUN Esxi on it. You know why? because it installs VMFS is you use the installable. so again ABE -

You can also take a look at page 68 of this document: http://pubs.vmware.com/vsphere-50/topic/com.vmware.ICbase/PDF/vsphere-esxi-vcenter-server-50-storage-guide.pdf

It says:
"The VMkernel performs the following tasks.
a Locates the file, which corresponds to the guest virtual machine disk, in the VMFS volume.
b Maps the requests for the blocks on the virtual disk to blocks on the appropriate physical device.
c Sends the modified I/O request from the device driver in the VMkernel to the iSCSI initiator (hardware

Q135 - I think this is C, not sure what the other answer would be.

AFAIK delete is for VMFS, and Unmount is for NFS. Delete destroys the data whilst unmount for nfs retains the data on the share.

I don't know if it would apply to the single host or all of them however.

Continue my analysis from previous post:

Q108: I disagree with Vmg. The question is asking specifically about High priority vMotion, option C is correct but related with Standard vMotion. Please check the full information about High and Standard vMotion in page 135 from vsphere-esxi-vcenter-server-50-host-management-guide.pdf. I maintain the option A+B.

Q124: I disagree with Vmg. In my opinion this is a trick question. Analyze the question:

Which VLAN value permits virtual machine guest tagging in vSphere 5 environment?

Option A didn't tag nothing in vSphere environment, only permit to see traffic on any VLAN, and leave the VLAN intact, in other words, port 4095 see but not tag.

In my opinion the best answer is B, that value really tag the traffic. If in answer have 2 values that tag the traffic, for example 1 and 46, but no, have only one value that really tag the traffic.

Q137: I disagree with Vmg. See that option A is talking about VMFS extend, and Storage I/O Control didn't support multiple extends. I maintain options B+D+E.

Hello,

Q103: Agreed with Bob, I can't boot using NFS.

Q73: Agreed with Deibel and Vmg, I tested using my lab.

Q78: Agreed with Deibel, change to options B+D. I used my lab and try to disable HA in virtual machines and didn't work, I only can overwrite the default configuration of HA Cluster.

Q85: Agreed with Deibel and VMG, change to options A+B+E.

Q92: I believe that is a trick question. The question wants to know what task are performed by VMKernel. Option A+D when you use hardware iSCSI, the adapter performs tasks A+D, only using software iSCSI VMKernel will perform option A+B. From my screenshot, look task number 1 and 4, VMKernel performed task 1 and 4 or options B+C.

Q21: I Disagree with Vmg. This is not a trick question? If template is orphaned the template menu continue to work (I tested in my lab). See the questions is asking about TEMPLATE MENU, no error deploying template. I imagine a template not stored in proper format, an admin clone a machine, not create a template, the menu is not available in this case. I maintain option A+B.

Q36: I disagree with Vmg. Imagine this scenario, you have 3 VMs, one high priority and two medium. your host down. HA will have resources to power up two VMs, HA only will restart High priority VM? I don't think so. HA will restart VMs until have resources, priority is used only to determine what VM to power first. Please see Page 25 from vsphere-esxi- vcenter-server-50-availability-guide.pdf

Q72: I disagree with Vmg. In question you can see what type of upgrade was planned. If you want to update VMWare vCenter Appliance have an option to perform that in vCenter Configuration Manager. We know that vCenter appliance didn't support Update Manager but can update itself. Why I need to deploy a new appliance, reconfigure and restore information if I can upgrade using the update option vCenter Configuration Manager? I maintain option A. I inserted a screenshot from my lab.

Hi Leonardo,
Q26: If I get your explanation correct, answers abe would be correct

Q73: Connecting the Host device would be the ESXi Host, I guess it should be D?!

Q78: Assuming that host monitoring is disabled HA will not work, explaining why machines are not being restarted.

Q85: Why should multipathing might trigger non-VI workload?
I agree on B and E but C is recommended bei VM Ware, so I doubt that its a valid answer.

Q92 is still invalid. Please have a look at your screenshot:
The topic 5a und 5b clearly states that the answers A+D are correct.

I'm not sure about option D too, but the other alternatives are not 100%.

About Q58, I tested in real production environment all options, and only have same question picture when Vmotion are disabled, when vm have connection to vswitch but not have access to same datastore.
When vm have access to same datastore but don't have access to vswitches I can proceed with vmotion but with warning. I need to chose a new vswitch where vm will be connect.

I think the answer to Q64 is wrong. Why would changing the DRS setting to agressive help? Even at its most conservative setting, setting one, as long as it is fully automated it will always move machines onto different hosts when the host goes into maintenance mode. Aggressiveness beyond level one is purely a load balancing feature - Level One DRS only moves machines if a host goes into mainenance mode or if affinity rules are violated. Levels 2,3,4,5 ALL include the previous levels (including level one).

However, disabling Admission control MAY help (and this is reccomended by vmware when using VUM against a cluster), because it allows us to place multiple hosts into maintenance mode that may otherwise have been dissalowed by HA.

Q58? It looks to me from the map as if the VM is not connected to either the Production Network OR the datastore. IT also says vmotion disabled - would this not be caused by not having the vmkernel port enabled for vmotion?

Pradeep: Cus AMD does not support HT. So it can only present the real cores. Intel supports HT, ergo it can present doubble the amount of "cores" it has. But you can normally only gain a 30% win in CPU power from the extra cores.

eg:
2x AMD dual core = total 4 cores
2x Intel dual core (with high likelihood of HT enabled) = (4 cores) + (4 HT cores) = 8 cores
