I failed my first attempt at this exam because i was not fully prepared for the simulations. The 30 multiple choice/drag and drops were easy.
This will actually be my 3rd attempt, the simulator bombed out right in the middle of working on the 2nd Simulation tasks. Prometric graciously is giving me a re-test at their expense.
Looks like the voucher I have for 70-640 still works.
I only have access to the 70-640 practice exam @ transcender.
I also have access to the official microsoft course labs from the prerequisite classes.
I'm guessing I'm covered on the multiple choices with the transcender exam (transcender is my main reliance)... what I'm wondering is what to solidify on the virtual labs while I still have access to cover myself for the new 083-640.
I just passed the 083-640 exam today (Friday), after i had attempted the exam on Monday where the exam crashed, what a waste of time that was.
The below tasks listed below in other posts are still valid, Just make sure you know how to do all of them, and you should be okay.
As for the multiple choice component, it was okay. I at a significant amount of questions about Certificate Services.

Here are some tips on 83-640 that I got on my exam:
1) Create RODC
2) Modify OU description
3) Set delete stale record - 8days
4) Avoid DC to received bad zone data
5) debug logging
6) Create forward lookup zone
7) Decrease cost defaultipsitelink to 50
8) Setup replication interval to 15 mins
9) Modify "COMPANY" attribute & upload to GC
10) Disable GC in RODC
11) Set security filtering of default DC policy only for DC group
12) Block inheritance
13) Delegate group to have rights to link GPO
14) Modify default DC policy to audit all success & failed login
15) modify EFS group permission to read and enroll efs cert.
16) Change DSRM password
17) Conditional forwarders to 10.10.10.15 & replicate all dns to forest
18) enable zone transfer to on a specific server
19) OU delegation
Note: The connection is very slow. Try opening all the required task: ADUC, ADSS, DNS, GPM in order not to waste your time

83-640
Configure GPM Link to Sales OU (Practice more this topic)
-Encrypted File System
-GPM delegate ITSales OU to Sales OU
-Configuring DNS debug Logging
-DNS Server>create conditional fowarder and replicate all dns server in forest
-DNS Server>Set scavenging records for all zones after 8 days
-DNS Server>Allow zone transfer only to following IP 10.10.10.xx
-Active directory site and service> Change the cost = 50 in DEFAULTIPSITELINK
-Active directory user and computer > Create RODC > Disable DNS and GC
-Configure reset dsrm password (in command prompt)
-Active Directory User and computers>Set the descriptions in Sales OU
Note: The Virtual Labs exam is VERY VERY SLOOOOOW.
Stuff you may get in labs :
Change DSRM password
Disable DNS load bad data
Block inheritance in GPO
Disable user configuration in GPO
Create a new forward zone in dns
Disable round robin and disable recursion (DNS)
Replication to all DNS server in this forest (DNS)
Add postal code in the schema and publish into Global Catalog (AD schema)
Raise domain functional level to 2008 & Raise Forest functional level to 2008
Reset all password user accounts, computer accounts and export the list of accounts that were cached on a stolen RODC
Change schedule to not replicate sitelink on Sunday
Disable last login name in Group Policy
Change the Sales global group to domain local group, and set the Group type to distribution

-configure delegation from X to Y
-allow zona transfer only to 10.10.10.xx
-create new primary zone to replicate to all DC in the domain
-disable round robin and load bad data
-raise domain functional level
-delegate to X group link GPO
-convert X group from global security to domain local distribution
-raise forest functional level
-enable company attribute
-reset dsrm password
-remove an stolen RODC

Two labs had 17 tasks totally. One hour for each lab. Tasks details can be found from below post.
I felt too tension during the lab coz i don't have much hands on experience on my daily support work for win2008 server in my company.
I will not going to re-take the exam at the moment..
2 virtual labs and 30 objective questions. Total time is 4 hours!
You must have good hands on experience in AD W2K8 first before taking this exam otherwise you will be struggling on the lab.
You still must have to pass the labs eventhrough you can score 100% on objective questions part, or else the final result will FAILED.
Many people failed because of that.
that is my only fear about the exam. and forget about calling them to ask about the computers. they dont know how to click start->run->dxdiag
(or go to germany!)

Dont Worry Labs are not too hard, if you are system admin and have experience on day to day operations then it is not hard for you.
I would say practice more on
DNS
GPO
and as some post most of lab tasks below.

-DNS zone tranfer,round robin

I enjoyed the Lab based test, I would really Compliment Microsoft for doing a good job on this. I love Microsoft...
This is a performance based test.
2 Labs with 7 Tasks each. (I would recommend to get some hands on DNS, Group Policies, Active directory sites and Services, functional levels, Domain Trust & Computers, Active directory users & Groups)
I felt lab test to be easier than the objective questions, because it is fun, if you know your stuff. 15 years of experience in IT field makes it easier. You actualy feel that you are being put to a challenging test.
This tasks much easier, I guess because this is first type of exam from Microsoft and they don't want to be hard on the test takers
Rest of them are 30 question like before.

Pl share yr exam(083-640) experience, the multiple choice from above dumps, what type of questions on virtual labs?
2 virtual labs and 30 objective questions. Total time is 4 hours!
old exam code is 70-640, require 2 hours for the test... So, I believe, the exam pool could be difference, can someone confirm?? TQ

I take my words back, but here is a weird one. My exam code for the 640 is now 094-640. I had originaly had my exam schedule in the 072-640 while talking to prometric on the phone the lady accidently canceled my exam and she had to reschudule it to the 083-640 exam. It was all scheduled for a certain day but when time came close I had to reschdule it again. When in the process of doing that with prometric over the phone, I was told again the code has changed now it is 094-640. It is werid, I tried searching online for any data that relates to the 094-640 but nothing is showing up.
I believe I'm comfortable enough in doing this exam, I'm in school and we have been using vm for windows server 2008 active directory for that last three months. So I'm hopeing it would be a piece of cake, but you never know these days.. It kinda sucks that that MS puts it in a way you must pass the VMware labs so you can get a passing grade.
